Laminar airflow versus turbulent airflow in simulated total hip arthroplasty: measurements of colony-forming units, particles, and energy consumption

چکیده
SummaryBackground The optimal type of ventilation in operating theatres for joint arthroplasty has been debated decades. Recently, the World Health Organization changed its recommendations based on articles that have since criticized. economic and environmental impact is also currently an important research topic but not well investigated. Aim To compare how large, high-volume, laminar airflow (LAF) turbulent (TAF) systems perform during standardized simulated total hip (THA), as they pertain to colony-forming units (cfu), particle counts, energy consumption. Methods Two identical were used THA. only difference was one equipped with LAF other TAF. Cfu particles collected from key points theatre, measured each simulation. Thirty-two simulations done total. Findings had significantly reduced cfu count when compared TAF, at both 100% 50% air influx. Furthermore, it shown lowering influx by did affect or particles, although reducing fresh lowered Most TAF meet cleanroom requirements. Conclusion lower It possible reduce 50%, consumption, while still maintaining counts below ISO classification threshold required THA surgery.

The application of personalized ventilation systems, particularly in the buildings, is one of the new topics that today presented to it, because of their proper performance in reducing energy consumption and creating better thermal comfort conditions. In the current study, the energy consumption of a personalized cooling system installed in a room, considering the constraint of thermal comfort,...
متن کاملNasal airflow resistance at simulated altitude.
This issue includes an important paper by BARRY et al. [1] in which the changes in nasal peak inspiratory flow (NPIF), and oral peak inspiratory flow (OPIF), during acclimatized exposure to low barometric pressure (equivalent to a simulated altitude of 8000 m, about the height of Mount Everest) of subjects in a hypobaric chamber were analysed. The changes were presumably due to hypoxia and its ...
متن کاملIn-Hospital Outcomes after Hemiarthroplasty versus Total Hip Arthroplasty for Isolated Femoral Neck Fractures
Background: Previous studies suggest total hip arthroplasty may have some benefits compared to hemi-arthroplasty for displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures in patients more than 60 years of age. The primary research question of our study was whether in-hospital adverse events, post-operative length of stay (LOS) and mortality in patients 60 year of age or older differed between tot...
متن کاملMetal in Total Hip Arthroplasty: Wear Particles, Biology, and Diagnosis.
Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been performed for nearly 50 years. Between 2006 and 2012, more than 600,000 metal-on-metal THA procedures were performed in the United States. This article reviews the production of metal wear debris in a metal-on-metal articulation and the interaction of cobalt and chromium ions that ultimately led to a dramatic decline in the use of metal-on-metal THA articul...
